To live out an adventurous story, where a small group of friends band together to become the heroes fighting danger and inventing new ways to solve problems, this is Dungeons Dragons. Ethan Gilsdorf, DD enthusiast, explained in his TEDx talk that many tweens sat in their basements eating chips and gorging themselves on Mountain Dew while playing this new exciting take on a classic type war game . Magic, adventure, companionship, and ridiculousness become available to each player. The Players Handbook has an overview of all the rules and resources one could need to interact with the story being told by the DM. It also stresses the need for individuals to make the game exciting and worthwhile, suggesting the game be made up of at least three persons . Without each individual’s creativity and role playing, the game would be blasà ©, repeating similar scenarios over and over. The two things work together hand in hand, for a campaign without thoughtful invested players is one not worth playing. To begin play, one needs to create their character. The Player’s Handbook maps out the wide range of characters to choose from. Characters can be built by the players rolling to determine their base attributes, which are strength, intelligence, wisdom, dexterity, charisma, and constitution. . These abilities set parameters for what class and race one’s character would be best suited for, such as a mage elf or a paladin dwarf. Characters of different skill sets can work together to accomp lish a specific goal. This element of cooperation between a diverse group of characters can make the game exceptionally dynamic.
